The weekly report takes a day to assemble.
Connect operational data and reconcile exceptions so people can review the business instead of rebuilding spreadsheets.

Reporting & reconciliation
Baseline the work. Validate dependencies. Change in stages.
The business problem
Finance and operations export data from multiple applications, copy it into spreadsheets and chase mismatches before producing a management report. Different teams use different definitions of the same metric.
Why engineering judgment matters
The hard part is agreeing what the numbers mean: identifiers, timing, duplicate records and which system owns each field. A visually polished report is not useful if its inputs cannot be reconciled.
How we would approach it
Agree the definitions
Document report owners, calculation rules, source systems, cut-off times and the current manual process.
Connect and normalize
Use available APIs, scheduled exports or database interfaces. Map identities, preserve source lineage and handle duplicate events.
Separate valid records from exceptions
Apply explicit reconciliation rules and route unmatched or incomplete records to a visible review queue.
Publish a repeatable view
Validate against representative reporting periods, document refresh status and make corrections traceable.
Where AI fits—and where it does not
Use deterministic calculations for financial and operational totals. AI can draft a narrative from approved figures, with source references and human review; it should not invent missing values.
What we would measure
- Staff time per reporting cycle
- Unmatched and duplicate records
- Time from source update to report availability
- Corrections after publication
Agree the baseline and acceptance criteria before implementation. Compare equivalent workloads and include one-time and recurring costs; do not assume a standard savings percentage.
What to bring to a first conversation
A redacted sample report, source application names, metric definitions and a walkthrough of the manual process.
